With 6:34 left in the second half on Friday afternoons Long Island University at Bryant Bulldogs game, Long Island University took a 59 to 47 lead after an Alex Rivera layup. Things looked very bleak for the Bulldogs. That’s when the Bulldogs went on a 16 to 1 run to finish off the game to come out with a 63 to 60 win.
“They were gritty. There was a point with about 9 minutes left where we just looked like we were in mud. I started thinking if its from the pause” said Bryant head coach Jared Grasso after the game.
“We just found a way to grit it out. Chris Childs, I was going to ride with him. I kind of challenged him at half time. He still missed some shots early in the second half. I was still going with him. I just trusted him” said Grasso when talking about his belief in Chris Childs to help the Bulldogs come back in the second half.
How The Comeback Happened
During that 16 to 1 run for the Bulldogs, Chris Child put up 10 points, which included an electric 4 point play to pull the Bulldogs within 2 points with 2:49 left. He also had 2 free throws that tied the game at 60 with 1:27 left in the game.

“He’s telling me he needs me to be the Chris Childs I am and just be aggressive” said Chris Childs when talking about what head coach Jared Grasso said to him at the half. Even thou Childs starting 0-11 from the field, he was able to score all 10 of his points in the final 6 plus minutes of the game.
Chris Childs has shown Jared Grasso in the past that he can be that gym rat that succeeds under Grasso’s system. On Friday when the Bulldogs needed it the most, he was able to come through and help the Bulldogs win.
With 10 seconds left, the Bulldogs were tied with the Sharks. Coming out of a timeout, Michael Green was given the ball with the chance to win the game. Green then drove to the basket and was fouled Virshon Cotton. Green was able to make both free throws to give the Bulldogs the lead for good.

What’s Next For The Bulldogs
With Friday’s win over the Sharks, the Bulldogs clinch at least one playoff game in next weekends NEC Tournament. Wagner is the other team that will at least host a playoff game next weekend. Wagner, who was on a 10 game winning streak, actually lost to Central Connecticut State on the road by a score of 83 to 77.
This loss by Wagner gives the Bulldogs the inside track on getting the number one seed and guarantee themselves on staying in Smithfield as long as they’re in the NEC Tournament. If Bryant sweeps their series with Mount St. Mary’s, they will host both games in the tournament. If they were to lose one of their games, they could still get the number one seed assuming Wagner is to lose one of both of their games with Merrimack. That series begins on Tuesday as well on Staten Island.
